This show is spectacular. The band is in top form and deliver one of the best from this tour. Jimmy's playing is incredibly fluent and great, especially on Misty Mountain Hop leading to Since I've Been Loving You. Over The Hills And Far Away has few very unusual and exciting guitar passages by Mr. Pagey. Dazed And Confused is beyond description, and the whole show is timeless. "Malacum Salaam! - It's a bit of Indian." says Robert at one point.
Some of my friends were part of the 56K in Tampa prior to Mobile....but I didn't get to go. But I will be always grateful that it was the Mobile concert that I did attend. It was a small venue for them which made it up close.....and I was at the stage edge down front too. I could see Jimmy's sweat run across the front of his Gibson. I wish Robert knew that he even made a comment to one of the guys I was there with during the show. If you listen to the "bootleg Goin Mobile".....you'll here Plant say..."he must be some kind of nut".....he was referring to one my crew that was having too good of time I guess. Like the other comment from the guy from Biloxi....I well remember that they purposely dimmed the lights for about the last hour(from 5 till 6) and it was almost totally darrk in the auditorium except the exit lights when it was showtime. When John Bonham started it off and then every stage light came on when Page came in....it almost cut me like a knife.....won't ever forget it. I lost my ticket stub somehow to this show...but I still have the full ticket to what would have been my second time and probably the the "largest" show......the cancelled show at the Superdome July 30, 1977. I basically have a room in my home dedicated to them....if there's a fan that loves them more than me.....I'd like to meet them......
From the total darkness of the colesium to the explosion of light and sound that began with "Rock and Roll" to the ending with Whole Lotta Love this was the best show I had and have ever seen. I thought Zep was great before and was certain afterwards. I was stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Miss. and this was my best day in the Air Force. They still sound great. Can't get my XM off of channel 59. Rock on.

Orlando 1971 [Genuine Masters, 2CD]
Live at the Civic Auditorium, Orlando, Florida, August 31, 1971
"Interestingly, I've just got a bootleg from a gig in Orlando and in between every song I'm playing all these riffs. Somebody played it to me and I thought, Crikey, they're really good riffs! They never got used again, but they just came out on the spur of the moment. It was such an inspiring time, playing with inspired people, and we were all absolutely on top of it."
- Jimmy Page, Guitarist Magazine (12/12/03)
There are three versions of this show in circulation: Welcome To Disneyland Part 1 And 2 (Lemon Song) is an incomplete audience recording. Florida Sunshine: Orlando Magic (Empress Valley) is a nearly-complete soundboard with the missing gaps filled with an audience recording. Then there is Orlando: You Really Got Me (Genuine Masters). The latter is a DVD release (photo stills as a slideshow) and is also a nearly-complete soundboard with the missing gaps filled with an audience recording. The sound is generally excellent.
According to Jules McTrainspotter on http://uuweb.led-zeppelin.us, the sound on the DVD is more 'natural', that is, the sources have not been EQ'd to the extent that Empress Valley like to do it... and the blend between the two sources [soundboard and audience] is seamless. There is also excellent stereo seperation between both left and right speakers, quite distinct in What Is And What Should Never Be."
Listening to the show today, one would hardly raise the eyebrow at Black Dog, Stairway To Heaven and Going To California - for these have become Led Zep classics and staples. But imagine the excitement of the Orlando audience - for many it would be the first time they were hearing these tracks which would make their appearance on the legendary Led Zeppelin IV album (released in November 1971). Stairway To Heaven was so new that Robert Plant had to introduce it!
But what fans recall and really miss from this show is the presence of drummer John Bonham - from his exchanges with Jimmy Page and the "fat" sound of his drumming.

Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war. We are your overlords.
On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.
So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing

![]() | Venue: Salt Palace Location: Salt Lake City, Utah, USA May 26, 1973 Like four British Caesars Led Zeppelin came, saw and conquered a frenzied, sold-out Salt Palace audience Saturday night. Easily the most elaborately staged rock performance ever seen in Salt Lake City, it will be remembered for years to come. Messrs. Page, Plant, Jones and Bonham are in the midst of a $3-million nationwide tour and the 11,000 plus fans here probably will be the smallest crowd they encounter. But it didn't seem to affect Zeppelin in the least. In fact, they seemed to enjoy the audience contact - something you don't encounter before 58,000 people in a baseball stadium. LIGHTS, MIRRORS The Salt Palace stage was a collage of lighting scaffolds, spotlights, huge banks of speakers, various light-reflecting devices, 14-foot-high mirrors and, of course, the four stars themselves. Super-singer Robert Plant and Jimmy Page fronted the band and drew most of the attention while the rhythm section of bassist-keyboardist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham supplied the music's foundation. *Rock and Roll* one of Zeppelin's better recent songs opened the two-hour show. It's a song that really moves - but sets a pace that's impossible to maintain. So they slipped into some slower material from their new *Houses of the Holy* album. PATTERN CONTINUES The band continued the fast-slow pattern through most of the night -alternating older, familiar tunes with new album cuts. Also in the format were Page's guitar breaks of varying lengths during almost every song. Most of the time, he carried it off admirably, but inevitably he began to repeat himself. But preciseness wasn't the object. It was the flash...the excitement...the theatrics...the total audience involvement that Zeppelin was after. They succeeded - and then some. It was remarkable that a concert which generated such advance excitement - and was performed before such an enthusiastic audience - was kept under such control. Most of it was due to restraint on the part of the audience. They were exemplary. 20 MINUTE SHOWCASE *Dazed and Confused* was stretched out to a 20-minute showcase for Page and the special effects staff. Using a violin bow on his guitar and a delayed-echo system, Page had the sound bouncing from one side of the stage to the other. At times, it circled. When it began to be redundant, they moved quickly into *Stairway to Heaven,* one of the finest songs they've ever written. John Paul Jones' work on the synthesizer was beautiful throughout the concert but especially on this number.

A great show from 1975! The recording captures clearly the performance and is really atmospheric, making this a pleasure to listen to. The show itself is wonderful ... Robert is in good voice (something that doesn't happen often in 1975), and the band is amazing. Start to finish this show is great ... even the long Moby Dick is enjoyable. (Bonham was introduced as "the man with a bicycle clip caught in his sock ... the greatest percussionist since Big Ben!") No Quarter is a wonderful jam with some excellent piano from Jonesy and Kashmir is epic. Dazed And Confused is long and great, and the drumming, in particular, is immense. This is also the date on which Physical Graffiti was finally been released in the United States and Plant commented that fact: "The egg has been laid ... or is it the guy who got laid?" Well here we go . Have you ever seen six long haired teenagers piled in a Datsun smoking a butt load of weed on the way to a Led Zeppelin show well that's how we got there.New Orleans is only about one and half hour drive from the east end to the Assembly center it took us Two but I tend to drive slow stoned. This little Car had a pioneer 8 track Player with with 4 nice Jenson speakers and Led Zeppelin 2 and Houses of the Holy rockin all the way there. No we did not have Graffitti yet.Once we heard Robert say it was out well I bought it a day or two later on LP .It is My all time Favorite Album ever recorded by anybody. We piled in My friend Billy had got our Tickets his dad owned a music store and had some connection's. I had just got back from a trip to New York and had started a offshore job as a Painter .Yes it sucked but paid well.I was saving for a vacation my Cousin Woody was going to England in May and I wanted to go .Dad said He would pay half so I was going against My nature and saving.Dad paid more than half by the way. Well Robert appeared quite chipper He joked quite a bit and seemed to be enjoying Himself.John paul as always was steady and great everything He played and Awesome on No Quarter .I could watch Him play all Day if I was not such a massive Jimmy Page fan. Moby Dick kick's butt tonight. This show is far better than the Garden show from 3 weeks earlier which I had at the time thought was good. I can only assume it is because its a home venue and I had just got back to My friends and Family and the Band had some good Cajun Cookin and felt really good.On this night life was about as good as it gets what I did not know was i was just a couple of months from the best gift I have and Would ever recieve.Remmeber I was saving for a Vacation to England I don't know where to begin. Led Zeppelin had always played in New Orleans when they came to the area, so having them come to Baton Rouge instead was a big event, to say the least. People had come from all around and camped out for days in a rare snowfall in the hope of getting tickets. I can't remember if the concert sold out in a matter of hours or a matter of days, but it broke Elvis Presley's record for this venue, and I would guess that Led Zeppelin still holds the record here. Luckily, my aunt worked at LSU and I was able to get "festival style seating" on the floor before tickets even went on sale to the general public. Since Zeppelin also played here two years later, during the Presence tour, it is hard to remember anything particular about either show, except that at the beginning of each we were packed like sardines up against the barricade, and the security guys were pulling people over who were apparently being crushed. It would calm down after "Rock and Roll", but there would inevitably be another rush for the stage for songs like "The Song Remains The Same" or "Whole Lotta Love". The thing I remember the most about both shows is being totally awestruck. For this particular show, I had not yet completely absorbed all the songs on Physical Graffiti, but I was keenly aware that previous Led Zeppelin albums that had disappointed me to some extent were just different than the mostly blues-based stuff on the first two albums. Physical Graffiti later became my favorite Led Zeppelin album, although it is hard for me to say which was their best. My only "regret" is that Led Zeppelin did not videotape every show they did for posterity. I guess that would have been too cost-prohibitive, even for them, or maybe they didn't think people would care several decades later. My memories are fading now, but it goes without saying that "an evening with Led Zeppelin" was an evening well-spent.

John Bonham's brother Mick recalled the night in his book 'My Brother John':
"I mused on the thought of putting a heavy rock band on stage in a venue such as Trentham Gardens. Set in 1000 acres of woodlands and beautiful gardens... John kick-started the kit into life, making it sound like a pneumatic hammer pounding the snare. The audience knew it was time to rock and Jacko (father)

LOlympia from Wendy is the latest in the string of releases featuring the recent rebroadcast of Led Zeppelins Paris show from October 10, 1969.
1969 was a time in Zeppelins career where every show was full of highlights and worthy of collecting and this show is certainly no exception. The sound quality is absolutely superb. It has to be heard to be believed! I cannot recommend this recording enough.
Communication Breakdown contains the same jam as the 6/27/69 BBC recording but without the Its Your Thing reference. I Cant Quit You Baby has a few seconds of Jimmys solo removed to avoid the announcer and was nicely done. This is the earliest known version of Heartbreaker and Page launches right into the solo without hesitation. White Summer is an excellent inspired version by Page and the recording captures Bonhams percussion nicely. How Many More Times has great moments in the jam section where you can tell the band is truly winging it. Overall, the band is really loose and gives a very powerful performance.
Compared to the no-label version Wendy is louder and livelier sounding.
Having a DJ talk over parts of the music can be rather annoying but Wendy's choice to leave the broadcast intact was a wise one. Tarantura is set to release another version from the unedited source but with so many other titles already out there, I really dont see the point. Wendy packaged LOlympia in a full color tri-fold paper case with early live shots of the band and is a beautiful title to own.
In the days of my youth, I was told what it means to be a man,
Now I've reached that age, I've tried to do all those things the best I can.
No matter how I try, I find my way into the same old jam.
*Good Times, Bad Times, you know I had my share;
When my woman left home for a brown eyed man,
Well, I still don't seem to care.
Sixteen, I fell in love with a girl as sweet as could be,
Only took a couple of days 'til she was rid of me.
She swore that she would be all mine and love me till the end,
But when I whispered in her ear, I lost another friend, oooh.
* Chorus
I know what it means to be alone, I sure do wish I was at home.
I don't care what the neighbors say, I'm gonna love you each and every day.
You can feel the beat within my heart.
Realize, sweet babe, we ain't ever gonna part.
Hey, girl, stop what you're doin'!
Hey, girl, you'll drive me to ruin.
I don't know what it is that I like about you, but I like it a lot.
Won't let me hold you, Let me feel your lovin' charms.
*Communication Breakdown, It's always the same,
I'm having a nervous breakdown, Drive me insane!
Hey, girl, I got something I think you ought to know.
Hey, babe, I wanna tell you that I love you so.
I wanna hold you in my arms, yeah!
I'm never gonna let you go,'Cause I like your charms.
