  | The attractive Benchmade Model 730 Ares may attract users looking for a strong tactical folder at a reasonable weight. First youll notice the striking sculpted G10 handles that have been offered in different colorations including the super cool plum/black Elishewitz version shown. The 730 as such holds a lot of collectible enjoyment. And if you get past the overyly hyped and laughable Benchmade writeup (copy) on this knife, youll notice it is also a extremely serviceable knife as well. The strength is derived from full 6000 series aluminum (thankfully skeletonized) liners onto which the G10 scales attach. The 730 is mostly a open pillar design which makes maintenance easy. Other upsides include: quality S30V (formerly 154CM and subject to change of course) steel spear point blade with adequate belly, rock solid lockup, ambidextrous thumbstuds, fast deployment speed, Axis mechanism lockup, field strippable design, strong reversible clip (thankfully configured for tip-up carry), and a reasonable 4.2 oz carry weight. Downsides would include: ergonomics that are reduced by sharp shoulders on the handle, handles that somewhat block the thumbstuds, and somewhat high cost. Currently it is available through German retailer Acma Reus (subject to change) and it is expensive for a manual action folder. But its cool, collectible, and will serve well in both the tactical and EDC role.
