Uncle Hubble back in operation!
11/09/2009
Hubble telescope miracle by which all tested her present
universe in a different light - light which none of us
had never previously seen, was back in office. Mon makotrpnata
installation and repair of its instruments at the end of May,
we can finally see the first photographs of its majesty, the most famous among telescopes.
Hubble is now ready to discover new worlds, to advance deeper into the universe, even to mapira that the universe that until now could not see. The first pictures of 19 year old Hubble showed its new look. At the top of the list are exciting exhibitions of spectra of distant galaxies, dense, dense stellar clusters and other objects, deployed across the electromagnetic spectrum of ultraviolet, so until infrecrvenata light.
New instruments are sensitive to light and can be monitored by methods that are considerably more efficient and require less time for observation of the previous generation of instruments on Hubble.
The pictures you see NGC 6217, spiral galaxy that is photographed by the Advanced Camera for Surveillance (Advanced Camera for Surveys - ACS), the main engine of the Hubble, which was broken since January 2007. Through STS-125 mission, space shuttle Atlantis to the Hubble has brought two new cameras, and several astronauts who fixed the old and the two cameras, which was among the ACS.
This photograph of the ACS is beautiful. NGC 6217 is relatively close to our galaxy, distant about 80 million light years. Gas and stars in the middle of an interesting form a rectangular transverse plane above the nucleus, because the complicated gravitational interactions. A lot can easily be observed and a number of pink parts, which create new stars. Despite the vast distance of 800 km kvintilioni, Hubble could still be observed individual stars. They are the biggest, brightest and most difficult. Stars who will one day explode into supernovae Monstrous - and be assured that the astronomers will be ready to observe, using the Hubble or its successors.
This photo is novoinstaliranata Wide Camera 3 (Wide Field Camera 3 - WFC3), the third generation of this camera placed on the Hubble. Photograph shows part of zbienoto cluster Omega Centaurus, gigantic ball of millions of stars orbiting the Milky Way. Only in this photograph can be seen about 100 000 stars in different periods of their life, from sporogorechki yellow stars to red giant stars - the stars at the end of their life, which will isparat in a small white dwarf, and finally sapphire blue stars rich in helium, which is also approaching the end of their cosmic journey.
This picture may not look like your very beautiful sight. It is a spectrograph for photographing (Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph - STIS), a camera that did not work more than 5 years, and now there was little to proraboti. As science, it is the spectrum (the light from the object to cut thousands of individual colors) of titanskata star Eta Carina, a monstrously star 100 times more massive than our Sun - the upper limit on how large a star can be without snap the team.
This photograph shows the light from the star sekcirana, showing its speed and chemical composition of the gas that surrounds the star - huge clouds of material that was ejected from the star in the explosion that occurred more than 100 years. With these spectra we can observe daily unpredictable nature of the Eta Carina and the bizarre and frankly terrifying star relates.
All of these instruments and new cameras and new gyroscope that Hubble will more accurately track objects that are monitored, will provide new and much better photos, which will be even better in years to stay.
