@Aetas3000 In "A" school we had like 40 people in my class, I scored 8th. so all the orders on the wall I was 8th. to choose whatever was left on the wall, of course Hawaii had two spots and went first. Most guys wanted to pick West Virginia, but when it came to choosing, they all picked Long Beach, or San Diego. NO ONE wants to be stuck in Guam. I chose Yokosuka because I was 17 years old, no kids no wife, and wanted to see the world on a aircraft carrier.

@Aetas3000 Hmm. Well, here's one thing you could try. Join the Navy Reserves first. Then put in paperwork to go active duty from there. I know that's possible. They'll take you into Navy Reserves up to 39. Good luck.

@Thrillcekr It was a dream of mine for several years to go to Japan with the US Navy but I'm already past the age limit now (34) so it will always be just a dream. Doesn't mean I won't go back to Japan someday. It just can't be with the Navy. They wouldn't take me because of a prior discharge from the Army.

Just joined the Navy. Going DC butwon't be shipping out till june '11. I asked my recruiter about being stationed in Japan and he said that IF you can get the top 3 scores of your class, you get priority on where you go. Of course, it still isn't a guarantee as there may not be any spots open for that particular base. I did ask him about Japan and he said that there are openings, so that'll be my first choice.

@Aetas3000 One nice thing about doing sea duty in Japan is that the deployments are much shorter. That whole not having to cross the Pacific means there's no need to be out as long.

@Aetas3000 It's not that hard. Some rates are easier than others though. For instance, if you're gonna be an ABH, working on the flight deck, well that department is HUGE so there's a constant stream of guys either getting out or moving on to their next duty station. Plus, an ABH can work the deck of a carrier or a gator freighter so they could go to either Sasebo or Yokosuka. Other rates are different so you'll have to see.

When I was there (From Sep 2005 - May 2007) I felt like I was the only one who REQUESTED orders to be there. it seemed like everyone else there was put there because nobody else wanted to be.

Every body wants to be in japan. Its one of the navy's favorite overseas ports. My husband is there now. he is actually on this ship. Ill be heading there soon. Im guessing since it is popular and alot of people i know who went there want to go back. It would be a little more difficult to get stationed there. Alot of people who were on the kitty hawk want to go back too.

I'm on the verge of joining the Navy. How easy or difficult is it to get stationed in Japan?
