Finally! The timeismotion software release for use with the Meade DS (aka MiLapse Head (Full Disclosure: I receive a small sales commission from Telescope-warehouse.com for MiLapse Head sales)). This simple software program will allow you to get gentle (fluid) starts and stops to your one and two axis pans via the autostar 497 controller. I introduce openmoco.org and the openmoco project and give an overview of what you will need to use the timeismotion software. See part 2 for using the software itself.

@milapse THX, so I'll try to get the "old" 497.

heho, I'm a bit confused by the different 497 versions: So my question: I've got a Meade DS-2000 with the normal 494 controller. Now I want to buy the 497 Autostar. Does your TIMEISMOTION-Software works with the 497EP modell? Or just with the old 497? Best greetings. And thanks a lot for your helpful videos.

That's one of the batteries I use for field work. The 12v dc cig lighter sockets are perfect for powering my camera and head... The ac inverter is perfect for powering the asus eee netbook

Hm, I have an ETX 70 telescope and inside I found two dc motors, IR leds and IR sensors. The IR light isn't even modulated. So I think I'll give it a try.

This is awesome. I just bought my first DSLR 4 days ago, and plan on a lot of time lapse. 2 days after I buy it, this video is up? SWEET!

This is very very Exciting! I was beginning to think that going through the extra trouble of getting a 497 was completely unnecessary since the Milapse Moco already comes with a smaller controller. Awesome!

yeh. unfortunately the custom firmware on the 497 is the only way to get scripted commands fed 'on the fly'

if I'm not mistaken. the meade motors have proprietary encoders so it would be a 'long trip' of reverse engineering around the 497

This looks pretty cool! Too bad I have the Autostar 494, so I can't update the firmware.. Maybe I'll just connect the sensors and motors to a USB interface card and write some software to control it.

Thanks for sharing this, look great. I went to look at my 497 handset controller but found its the controller with the cursor keys rather than the numberpad and so does not have the serial socket on the bottom of it, guess I need to try and get a new 497 before I can use your software.
