On January 4th, 2010, the Kepler Science Team announced the first five worlds discovered by the Kepler Space Telescope.

These planets are larger, Jupiter-sized ones, instead of the smaller Earth-sized planets it was designed to detect, but these discoveries pave the way by assuring that the systems all work and that the science goals will be met.

This announcement was made at the Meeting of the American Astronomical Society being held this week in Washington DC. Here is a link to the press release:

This was the fastest I've ever made a video. I was heading off to bed at about 11:30 pm, cozy in bed with my laptop when I first read the release - I was uploading this video by 3:00 am.

I felt this news was important because many Space Fans have been asking questions about what Kepler is and how it worked.

    Keep Looking Up!

If this becomes a habitable planet and could have human species living on it, My only wish is to not have any people that are destroying the earth to live on it, we don't want to ruin this planet too. Hopefully all the research is complete, and this becomes a true Super-Earth!

@WTFLEETERS Or do you just have a problem with calling atheism a religon? I just meant that atheist that say that there is no god do this without proof and so just have a belief there is no god. So they are acting as all the religions. But of corse they don't belong to theism and therefor religion.

@WTFLEETERS Encyclopædia Britannica: "atheism, in general, the critique and denial of metaphysical beliefs in God or spiritual beings. As such, it is usually distinguished from theism, which affirms the reality of the divine and often seeks to demonstrate its existence. Atheism is also distinguished from agnosticism, which leaves open the question whether there is a god or not, professing to find the questions unanswered or unanswerable."

"Detecting Earth size planets as it passes in front of a star is a lot like observing a fly as it crawls across the street.....late at night......from many miles away." LOL! Damn!

@Deathsquadstudios4 That's not true. Atheist says, without proof, that there is no god and that's why it's a belief. Only Agnosticism is not a religion because they say there is no proof for or against god and so there is no sense on searching because everything, sooner or later, can be explained without a deity.

Imagine our spacetime is a static map. So God is intemporal knows everything... he thinks about everything instantly! no begin. no end.So he should know all the possibilities on that static map (I know he's outta space),so why creating us? he knows that some possibilities lead to happy world, other to suffering world,so maybe it's because he doesn't love imaginary beings.A guy answered me that he doesn't know about the probable, so his God isn't omniscient,he told me only what occurs has occurd

@coment6 thanks man but after all God created the universe with his laws.So there's no contradiction between physical science and God.Science means knowledge so God is the best scientist, he sees all he knows all he's intemporal...But I think he wants us to know him consciously and deserve it,he created us submitted inside space time, that's why the last judgment doesn't come instantly for us.Anyway I prefer being an irreligious theist than a christian,God may have created beings on other planets

They might be able to see these distance earth sized planets if they adjusted the contrast settings on the telescope

building a bigger space telescope is too hard, we should build several telescopes working together to zoom further. Organic life is maybe rare in the universe but today we can't affirm it's only on earth like the bible states, God maybe created organic alien civilizations on other planets in which god is maybe teaching his laws. Angels are aliens who can explain strange phenomens on earth but not elsewhere in the other galaxies, they're spirits not especially space travellers.
