@mrmini748 I'm not talking about QaF particularly. I'm straight and black. I celebrate a show that tweeks the nose of people who think one part of our society should "keep their business to themselves". I want to see all society. But writers as creatives, as should artists, if you live in a modern city, across your works leads should me far more varied than they are in present 21st century film and tv.

Yeah, but you can't have lead characters from ALL possible walks of life IN THE SAME program - otherwise it turns into a soap, or a mess.

steremonk - don't you think there are enough 'soaps' and 'dramas' out there that show different aspects of cosmopolitan life already? The entire purpose of QaF in the UK was to address something which, at the time, was quite taboo and limited in its TV appearances! Sefirosukuraodo - There was supposed to be a spin-off based around the other characters in the UK version - Vince's mum was included - but it never happened, I also think that ours is more fondly remembered than the US version.

You should take the opportunity to show the variety of life in a modern city. Have lead characters from all walks of life, all cultures, all persuasions. Then you have a rich, truer source of drama.

I can understand where he's coming from about keeping the focus narrowed down to those three characters, but the reason that the US remake ran for 5 years is because they did make the effort to turn those incidental lesbians, mothers, uncles, and friends into complete characters with depth, rather than having them pop up for no reason than to be there. Mel and Lindsay were absolutely fantastic additions! Don't get me wrong, our series was good and I love it, but the US version was much better.
