he's right with the "extend to full zoom" advice but for that you need massive light source because usually the lens in p&s cameras are very very slow, and even if you have a tripod, you subject won't stay perfectly still so your image will still be blurry..
He does state to use a window light if you have it. You don't need the softbox.
And tripods can be had for very cheap - $20 or $30. They just aren't the 'best' and may fall apart after hard use.
Setting it on telephoto is an especially helpful tip. It avoids the "dog nose" effect of a subject's face too close to the lens. Thanks for sharing :)
