I don't recommend this product for people that don't have any idea about networking because night owl support is a mess, you have to call them and leave a message; If they want they call you back, if not your going to celebrate christmas eve and New Year and you'll still be waiting for support. it's a shame.

@aanhouden Just got the kit with the pre terminated 60' wires. I have my front yard covered with 4 cameras covering one side gate, front door, and two crossing the driveway to cover blind spots. I think I can get away with the 100' cable they sell at Fry's as long as I route thru the side of the house (shortest route). I just need to to cover the back yard.

@SydeshowMO I think that for longer runs, you should use coaxial (rg-59 type like cable). Coax is shielded cable and it will be less attenuated because the Impedence is balanced (I think that what I write is right). Make sure you get coaxial or RCA cables that has the power cable (for 12vdc) built into it (convenient). I also think that 300ft is the max lenght for legacy bnc ethernet networks before amplifiers were required. So I would expect much less for video (150ft- I guess).

I wanted to see the interface that would allow to search and or browse through all of the recorded events. Are there thumbnails or simply a whole bunch of files dumped into folders? Currently I use ZoneMinder (google it up, its worth it), how would this compare in term of event navigation? Thanks.

Very nice system and design, I've been thinking about buying a broken DVR system off ebay of something because I want to design my own from scratch as a project with a lot more support. Security systems are fun to play with

Just ordered this thing but I have a few locations further than 60ft. Now I have to figure out what type of cable I need to run. Im thinking 18/4 or 22/4, anyone know? I think terminatiing the power plug might have to turn into a splice.

@LordAtrocities - Should point out that THAT is what they did when our business was robbed. They killed the power, and then came in with ski masks on. System circumvented. Also any moron can no google how to beat a camera surveillance system. :(

kill the power at the power box and Poof... no more video surveillance. Or just wear a ski mask when robbing a home. An expensive toy that is about worthless.

You pathetic dim-wit, this is a computer. We watch to see reviews of computer parts, not the lame shit that you come up with. I think we should all just boy-cot Tiger Direct and buy from New Egg until they go back to reviewing computer parts for us. (Period) We want Albert and computer parts you nit-wits. We made Tiger Direct by buying the stuff that Albert reviewed and we can destroy Tiger Direct by boy-cotting them until they go back to reviewing computer parts with Albert.
