My group's project for AP Lang.
We had to recreate a tragic event in history using creative and appropriate rhetoric techniques.
FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.
I do not own any of these clips (all found on youtube) or music.
I'm glad I've learnt about the Jamestown Massacre like about 2 years ago on a TV documentary where actual survivors were talking about this believing this son of a gun... :'( All I can say is when Jones offered wine which he claimed was Jesus juice (with poison) and given to children as well as their parents and friends all that was going through my head was what was going through his sick, twisted mind!!! Utopia, more like Dystopia. The living should not be asked to join the dead as they are, as yet unwelcomed by the dead, fate, god(s) etc. No one can define the meaning of your life, we define our meaning no one else whether that be another man, woman, child or God.
@TheBereansMinistry well, the bible is twisted enough to make you throw up! if you read it from cover to cover......massacres, a jelous god who kills other people if they do not follow him, infanticide, misogyny, etc......faith is the problem. belief without a shred of evidence in anything you like, like religion, for example!
@COULDNTthinkNAMEOFa Ahh mormons. They put put an advertisement on a big billboard by my house. Advertising a religion is really weird in my opinion. Its a sing of a cult.
@lisakn27 same situation how women say i'd never let a guy beat me...then stay w them bc they control them and isolate them from everyone so they have no choice but to put all their trust in that ONE man. tHats what this guy did..it has nothing to do w Christianity. these are just crazy people.
@OSGinga So there is a HUGE difference between this and a normal church.The problem is when people take someone's word for everything without checking it out themselves and just like everything in life people can abuse anything..including their power.Kinda like cops:p I'd say if someone's church was wanting them to give up their possessions and money and ONE person had all the authority..somethings wrong! If my pastor got up and started talking craziness people would not have it.
@OSGinga These are some criteria for qualifying as a "cult"
1. You are given a new name (manson cult)
2. Held against your will and cannot leave or it would be almost impossible to do so if you wanted to (FDLS)
3.a devious quasi-religious movement that uses psychological means to gain and CONROL its adherents. (scientology)
My church does not control me or force me to give up my possessions and free will.I didn't receive a new name n some weird ceremony like Mormons & i can leave at any time.
The devil is losing and at the end will be accused of all the crimes. Live at the full in the freedom of GOD (praying in a right form, following the INSTRUCTIONS in the Bible - keeping the 10 commandments - including keeping the Saturday as the 7th day etc.) instead of in the incapacity and deception of devil. Jesus Christ is the savior and hope.
@TheBereansMinistry How is believing the bible any different from what this guy preaches. They are both teaching lessons about life but this guy is a stern wacko.The bible's story has been changed through out thousands of years and is changing all the time. People do not have the power of knowing that there is a heaven or hell. Religions are all just guesses to what happens after death and lessons how you should treat you neighbor. All religions are colts in a sense.
I fucking hate the government for what they did to Jones. I fucking hate Jones for what he did to those people. I fucking hate those people for what they did.
@TheBereansMinistry It's funny how they convinced then to commit suicide, when even in the bible it says that you should never take that what has been given to you by god, life... I'm an atheist though by the way.
