Chinese kung fu is about defence and improving health. Tai Chi is a very sophisticated art, but if all you're interested in is just fighting then go elsewhere. Its obvious Tai Chi is not for you.
why do so many people have the wrong impression of gungfu... there is no quick or long way to learn, you either practise it or you don't. Some people can learn fighting very quickly others not, but some might teach better than others, while some can perform better... so what? H
u can't really get into tai chi aiming to be good at fighting with it, you'd get fed up way before you reached that level. just enjoy the other huge benefits of it, the fighting benefits might come much later. if you want to be good in a scrap take up a hard 'external' fighting art.

How do you mean boring? You must have little understanding of internal mechanics to say something like that. Yes you do have to do taijiquan for a long time before it is effective for fighting... that's because it's a very advanced form of fighting and the principles take a long time for your body to understand them. if you want to learn to fight quickly, then learn a lower level art taht uses obvious power
