Oh my Goooddd I laugh until I cry every time I see this video.
"They'll never be able to separate Jekyll from HyyyyyYYYYYAAAUUUUUGHHHHHH HASSELHYDE SMAAAAAAASH!!"
@J2oLLaAre you kidding?! His acting is God-awful and the only thing that's worst than his acting in this is his singing! I've seen better acting from 5 year olds in community plays.
The more I listen to this the more I like the Hoff's interpretation - the scream in particular was incredible, he brings intensity to the whole performance, and he's evoking a darkness in Jekyll that normally isn't there. He definitely doesn't have the voice, but he does so much right in this clip.
His voice isn't exactly the best in the business, and most of the other songs in the show weren't all that good, but this is actually pretty good, and he's got tons of passion in his performance. He also obviously has a strong wish to star in a musical, and he made that happen - I'm assuming - using collateral he earned from previous successes in his life, and I respect him for that.
HIs transitions are so clean. You look at the other performances, and each has its incredible moments, but none was as clear and clean as his were. He's obviously not a singer, but I was pleasently surprised. It's a difficult, crazy hard song and I think he did really well
damn he raced through this, he was switching back and forth so much, it is almost like a dance move (back and forth, back and forth, back and forth) thank god they stopped the broadway production about 10 years ago
@J2oLLa There is so much criticism because when you compare him with Anthony walrow, It's like listening to down with webster and Led Zepplin and trying to figure out who is more of a legend. Nobody can do Jekyll & Hyde better than Anthony Warlow vocally, emotionally and theatrically. David was good, but if he were a middle school grade, he would be a B because he meets all the standards, where-as Anthony would get and A for meeting and exceeding the expectations for both Jekyll & Hyde.
Hasselhoff's Hyde is amazing! don't really like him as jekyll though. I like cuccioli the best! I love the intensity of this song. I like the way how david sang it faster as compared to the original where it's a lot slower of a song. making it faster added to the drama of what is going on in the scene.
I have to say that the Hoff's singing isn't quite as noticeably good as the others are (Cuccioli, Evan, Warlow) but I really like how he uses his vibrato. I personally don't think that his Jekyll is the best, but his Hyde is great! I just wish he'd changed the voices a bit more.
One other thing - The lightning cues weren't the best as some points. Especially during Jekyll's last line (besides screaming) the lights didn't change until after he said "God damn you Hyde".
This song is a bitch to sing, But I think the Hoff did this pretty well! I've a friend who did this at a show and he did it in much the same way. I think the key to enjoying this song is to remember that though Jekyll and Hyde are one in the same they are so different they might as well be seperate people and it is the surpression of evil that makes us good and if that evil is released...well, you know what happens to Jekyll at the end
