@LeBellmont It's about a deaf friend of his I believe, but all music is subjective. The artist may have one meaning in mind when writing and performing the song but every single listener could feel or think something utterly different. That's the beauty of good music.
When you listen to the lyrics, it makes sense that it may have been about someone who is terminal. It comes off more about painful loss to me than anything. I don't think it's about something as shallow as a botched relationship. :\
