For as long as he has been aware of his sexuality, Torchwood's John Barrowman has been convinced that he was born gay. As John battles with a battery of brain tests designed to see how straight and gay brains differ, can scientists prove his theory that a person's sexuality isn't a choice? Interesting clip from the BBC science series Making of Me. Watch more high quality videos on the new BBC Worldwide YouTube channel here: http://www.youtube.com/bbcworldwide

@MamaMario13 I disagree the crack of your ass is no place for a dick. That's why aids is so prevalent in faggots. Homosexuality is barbaric and has no place in civilized society. A homo is not even worthy to lick the dog shit off of my shoe. Get some education and do something with your life! Stop submitting to COCK!

@zettadom The GLBT population has increased from 2 to 3.5% in the past 5 or so years according to studies but you have to take into account a drop in social stigma at least in Britain, the USA, Canada and most western countries. This will lead people to be more open about their sexuality. Girls do experiment with each other much more than boys but it doesnt neccesarily mean theyre lesbian

@remotewall Like I said, "I know no promiscuous gays, but I wouldn't say that, therefore, they don't exist". We're no different from straight men. Let's face it: the average man would not hesitate to fuck any doable woman given the chance. Women aren't usually like that, even the single ones. The ones that are are called "whores". Such is our male-dominant ones.

@Kiriff believe me promiscuous gays abound. i know from personal experience. so do a lot of so called straight married men who rush to call their wives and kids straight after having sex with another man. had that happen to me many times.

@MyMagic111 it is odd that i should happen to read about all of this when we were discussing the issue of testosterone during pregnancy a day ago at my work. i have always suspected that the mother and in particular her state of mind/ hormone levels etc can affect the sexuality of her child. i have also seen documentaries over the years that would suggest the same situation. good on ya mum!

oh for... stop saying crap like why would anyone choose to be gay? i would. i happen to want to be male and i happen to love men so yeah, i would choose that combo cuz it's the best ever! if you don't like being gay then i'm sorry for you, but it pisses me off everyone is shitting on the gay experience. yeah people are assholes if you aren't like they want you to be, but that's life. everyone has trials. being gay is awesome and i wouldn't change that to fit in with morons. i apologise to noone.

@BlackRepublican2010 Retard above. I am a Homosexual, and i went through hell during my teens handling it. It's not a disease, nor is it a choice. I have always been attracted to men in one way or another. And sure, i am attracted to some women, but that is very rare.

@onebadgs400 And where is all your proof for this? I am a Homosexual, and i went through hell during my teens handling it. It's not a disease. And by the way, i don't go around and think ''Im gay, i must fuck''. That is just a retarded idea. I am proud of being gay, and people like you should go and die in a hole, preferably dug by Simon of the Yogscast.

Born Gay IS True why would ANY ONE choose to be ?? What would you gain but pain and people telling you it's wrong. I remember having a huge crush on my best friend growing up and scared to loss that friend ship so much I cry at night and worried what my family say (happen to still love this person now his FtM) when we even have sleep overs I cry when I got home missing this person..

@BlackRepublican2010 I guess it is obvious that you did not understand what was explained in the video. This is not about genetics or evolution. It's about horomones - testosterone specifically in boys or the lack thereof during the male brain's early development. As is stated, the brain's sexuality is basically 'hardwired' into place halfway along in the pregnancy. Therefore, if a boy foetus has not received much or any testosterone by then, he will most likely be homosexually inclined.

@onebadgs400 Besides, this association of gays and promiscuity is usually followed by a willing blindness on the behalf of those who defend it. They tend to 'forget' how promiscuous many men are on average, regardless of sexual orientation. Only in a men-men relationship, no-one has to pretend something they're not. Besides, flamers can't really hide their true identities. Being out is inevitable; hence the apparent majority of their numbers among gay men.

@onebadgs400 Erm, maybe because you can't tell from an unassuming and respectable person whether he's gay or straight? I'm quite sure none of them would deliberately come out to someone like you if they have a choice to hide. Regardless, just because YOU don't know it doesn't mean they don't exist. All gays I know - myself included - have longer lasting relationships than my straight friends' on average. I know no promiscuous gays, but I wouldn't say that, therefore, they don't exist.
