Historically, a user was able to control the version of iOS installed on the device. Apple is now acting with impunity and all out monopolistic actions that are having detrimental effects on Deaf users.

This is very limiting because it prevents a Deaf or Hard of Hearing user from making a phone call to other Facetime users and in some cases to a hearing person through video relay.

I just discovered that Apple is now preventing iPad 2 users from downgrading from 4.3.5 to 4.3.3. Obviously, Apple is trying to prevent people from jailbreaking their iPad 2. The one thing Apple is forgetting; without the ability to downgrade the device to 4.3.3 so a user can choose to jailbreak (perfectly legal to do so) the user cannot use Facetime over 3G connection. The user is limited to only using Facetime over WiFi.

@KDewey92 I am visually impaired; we want to live independent and full lives just like everyone else.

@KimberleyRobbins Thats true about loving it and getting it or not but its still a waste of money. Just like companies that make drugs. If those companies that stop making drugs, we'll save about 1 Billion dollars. And thats only the drugs. Transportation, labor, electricty, will add up WAAYY more than a billion. So if the Mac company came up with something thats not a waste. They can invest that money into something but i doubt anyone would do that with they're extra money

@KimberleyRobbins It was an old post, meant to be more of joking than anything. I do see the accessibility, but I wouldnt buy one.

@Derrick021594 I think the main advantage over an iPhone or iPad is as you said the memory and also if you can see the screen is much better suited for using it as an ebook reader. I guess it's for a very niche market and if you don't "get" it it's not made for you. The same type of arguments come up about the MacBook Air (I love mine btw!) You either love it and get one, or hate it and don't. It's great for what it's meant to be for.

@KimberleyRobbins i still think its a stupid line up in the MAC company. It would be nice to have one but i rather have a iPhone since its very similar to a iPad. You'll get more out of a iPhone than a iPad but what a iPhone lacks is memory. iPad is just too big and seems very unusual. So the iPhone is the exact same thing as a iPad

The ignorance of sighted people never ceases to amaze me. Apple have taken a major strategic step to make all of their excellently designed products to be accessible to the visually impaired, opening up a huge market worldwide. When people show how little they understand this concept with statements like why would you buy one if you are blind? Well content is not exclusively visual in nature. And why should blind people be left behind on the information super highway?

@MrPersie242 OK, first of all you didn't say that and you made it sound like it was on a LOT longer than just in the car. You don't have to be so immature swearing and things. Your just making yourself look bad. Also Im reading this with the SAME program that allows me to use the iPad (or other Apple products)! VoiceOver.

@KDewey92 I have a question: Why in the world would you buy an iPad if your sighted?! We (blind people) buy it for the same reason you sighted people do.
    Saturday 10 July 2010 01:02:47
  • KimberleyRobbins

@pmariu02 Why wouldn't we? It's completely accessible to us.

  • KimberleyRobbins

@Exult That's not true at all! I'm totally blind and can operate it just fine! If you were paying attention to the video you would have understood that...

  • KimberleyRobbins

@Cla900 The same way anyone who is sighted could. I'm blind and am the CEO of a company. We work and earn money just like anyone else.

@R00TZSP How exactly does it make it "obsolete"? It's making the iPad accessible for blind people like myself and we use ti the same way as you would. The only difference is it says whatever our fingers are over and we have to double tap to open things.
    Saturday 10 July 2010 00:56:45
  • KimberleyRobbins

@Mitchimus21 Because it is accessible to us and we would buy it for the same reasons sighted people would...

@wgoddard1988 It looks like we would need someone to turn VoiceOver on for us in the beginning, but I'm guessing like my MacBook Air once it's on if you don;t turn it off it stays on.
    Saturday 10 July 2010 00:50:48
  • KimberleyRobbins

@Derrick021594 You have to double tap to press a button for that reason. Because whatever you move your hand over will be read out loud.

  • KimberleyRobbins

@dbpjake Did you even watch the video? It talks and is accessible to blind people like me, so why not?
    Saturday 10 July 2010 00:44:51
  • KimberleyRobbins

@MrPersie242 It might be for you, but it makes things accessible for blind people like myself. Maybe you should have had a quick look on google to see how to turn it off...
